There is a simple way to test whether or not you need deck waterproofing. You can take a few drops of water onto your deck. If the water sits on top of the wooden decking, then your deck is already sufficiently sealed and does not yet need any touch-ups. However, if the water is absorbed into the wood, that means that your deck is in need of some more waterproofing. If a little bit of water can worm its way into the wood of your deck, so can rain.
